<< Barking Deer

Muntiacus muntjak

Muntjacs are found not only in Indo Malayan countries but also in China and Japan.

In India Muntjacs are not only found in the hill of Northern India but also in hilly parts of Southern India up to the height of 2450 m. (8000 feet).

They live in thickly wooded forest.

Its call from a distance sound much like the bark of a dog.

Due to poaching and disappearance of thick forest, the status of barking deer has become rare in its range of distribution.
