<< Spot Bellied Eagle Owl

Bubo nipalensis


Spot Bellied Eagle Owl is found locally in Himalayas mainly from Uttarakhand, North Uttar Pradesh East to Arunachal Pradesh between foothills up to 2100 m.

This owl is a very large owl (63 cm. long), easily distinguished by large, chevron- shaped spots on whitish under parts, buff-barred dark brown under parts and all brown eyes.

It is largely nocturnal, usually hiding by day among dense foliage in deep forest or thickly wooded valleys.

It is very powerful owl, able to overcome large prey such as Kalij Pheasant, Hares, Jackals, Fawns, Lizards and Snakes.
