This pheasant is found in Western Himalayas, Kashmir, H.P., U.P., and Nepal from 400 m. to 3600 m.

It is mainly an insect eater and also eats seeds, grains and small reptiles.

Its breeding season is between March and June.

It is fairly common in Himalayas but needs protection and conservation.
