Serow One new born female Serow fawn was found orphaned
near Ranibagh on 20-12-2000. It was brought to Nainital zoo. During
observation it was found that the naval cord of the Serow was with it and
it was not fully dried.
The weight of fawn was 7.5 Kg. and height was
46cm. It seemed to be very weak. Water and buffalo milk in the ratio of
50:50 was provided.
After two three days, the fawn started loose motions. One
goat was arranged to act as step mother for providing milk to the Serow.
After fifteen days, the weight of the Serow reached to 8.5Kg. and it
started taking green leaves of Strobilanthus and green grasses.
After two months, the weight of Serow increased up to
11.80 kg. and height 56 cm. The fawn was released to its enclosure on
03-03-2001. Now the rescued fawn is a fully grown female.
